HVAC Tax Credits and Rebates for Florida

Tampa Bay homeowners may qualify for utility rebates when installing a qualifying high-efficiency HVAC system, but available incentives depend on your electric provider, equipment, and the program requirements in effect when the system is installed.
Tampa Electric HVAC Rebates
Tampa Electric offers a Heating & Cooling Program for residential customers replacing an older, inefficient HVAC system with a qualifying new ducted system.
Current TECO rebate levels include:
- HVAC Minimum SEER 16.00 or SEER2 15.20: $40 Rebate
- HVAC Minimum SEER 17.00 or SEER2 16.20: $550 Rebate
Qualifying equipment can include heat pumps, straight-cool systems with natural gas heat, and certain geothermal systems. For straight-cool systems, TECO requires a new furnace, and propane gas does not qualify. Geothermal systems have separate EER requirements.
TECO states that ductless mini-split systems are not eligible for this particular rebate program.The rebate is based on the number of condensing units. If the system cost is less than the applicable rebate amount, TECO limits the rebate to the total invoice price.
The rebate application must be submitted within 90 days after installation. TECO requires information including the customer’s account number, AHRI documentation, and proof of purchase.
TECO also states that participating contractors must deduct the rebate from the customer’s invoice and show the rebate amount as a separate line item.

Duke Energy Florida HVAC Rebates
Duke Energy Florida offers residential energy-efficiency rebates through its Home Energy Improvement program.
Eligible single-family homes may receive up to $1,000 back for HVAC replacement after completing a qualifying free Home Energy Check. Duke says the recommended improvement must be completed within 24 months of the assessment.
Duke’s 2025 Florida program announcement also listed additional potential rebates for eligible customers, including up to:
- $800 for energy-efficient windows
- $800 for attic insulation, up to $450 for duct testing and repair
- $800 for a qualifying hybrid heat pump water heater
The Home Energy Check is available to residential customers who have not had one within the previous two years, including renters and apartment residents.

Because Duke’s requirements can depend on the property, previous energy assessment, equipment, and other factors, homeowners should confirm the current requirements with Duke before scheduling an HVAC replacement.
Florida Energy Saver Program
Florida is also developing the Florida Energy Saver Program using federal funding for residential energy-efficiency improvements.
The state’s official program website explains that Florida is establishing two rebate programs through a single application process: HOMES and the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate (HEEHR) program.
HOMES Program
The Home Owner Managing Energy Savings, or HOMES, program is intended to provide rebates for qualifying energy-efficiency improvements that achieve required energy savings. Eligible improvements can include insulation and efficient heating and cooling equipment.Florida’s program information currently states that the HOMES pilot program is expected to launch in the future. Homeowners can register through the Florida Energy Saver Program website for updates when applications open.
High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebates
The High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate, or HEEHR, program is intended for low- and moderate-income households and can provide rebates for qualifying heat pumps and other efficient electric equipment.
Florida’s official program portal currently says that applications are expected to open in the future.
For current information, homeowners should visit the official Florida Energy Saver Program rather than relying on older articles that may list rebate amounts or application dates that have changed.
Are There Federal HVAC Tax Credits in 2026?
No federal residential HVAC tax credit is currently available for qualifying equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025 under the former Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit.
The IRS states that the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under Section 25C is not allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.
That means homeowners should be careful with websites and advertisements that still quote the former $600 air conditioner tax credit or $2,000 heat pump tax credit for a 2026 installation.

Is There a Florida HVAC Tax Credit?
Florida does not currently offer a general statewide residential HVAC tax credit comparable to the former federal Section 25C credit.
Instead, Tampa-area homeowners are more likely to encounter utility rebates, such as those offered by TECO and Duke Energy Florida, along with the developing Florida Energy Saver Program.
